During World War II, the Nazis murdered approximately six million Jews; men, women and children, in an attempt to systematically finish with the Jewish community in Europe.

Every year in this day the world, and specially the Jewish community commemorate the liberation in 1945 by Soviet troops of the famous concentration camp ,Auschwitz-Birkenau.

People staying in silence for two minutes, vehicles detained, closed public places and constant transmission of songs and documentaries in the media are part of the rituals during this day in Israel.
